Aurangabad in June
Maharashtra, India
Skip June — first half plateau heat, second half humid monsoon onset; reschedule to Oct-Mar.
June Aurangabad is the season turning slowly — first 2 weeks remain in plateau-summer territory (24-40°C, hot dry days, dusty winds), then the South-West monsoon onset around Jun 15-20 brings sudden relief (22-32°C, humidity high but heat broken). Bibi Ka Maqbara approachable again by late month. Daulatabad still uncomfortable in first half. The Deccan landscape doesn't green dramatically the way Sahyadri does — Aurangabad sits in moderate-rainfall zone (700-900mm/year, vs Konkan 3,000mm) — but the air clears. Naan-qalia Mughlai food scene continues. Pre-monsoon mango (Alphonso, Kesar) season closes by Jun 20.
The June story
Time visit to post-Jun-15 if at all — Aurangabad is bearable but not optimal. Ajanta-Ellora caves are sheltered inside, but the inter-cave walks remain hot in first half. Bibi Ka Maqbara sunset visits best. Daulatabad post-Jun-25 manageable with grippy shoes (basalt slippery wet). Hotel rates climbing back from May low. Welcomhotel, Vivanta, Lemon Tree all back to mid-pricing. Food: monsoon-onset shifts toward bhajiya-chai street culture; naan-qalia stays year-round. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary turns green and gets migrant arrivals by month-end. Paithan 50 km S for Paithani weavers — workshops open year-round, June workable. Driving: monsoon roads need caution; NH-160 between Manmad-Aurangabad sometimes floods. Trains via Manmad Junction reliable. Hotel summer rates extend to mid-June; book early-July onwards at slightly higher rates.
