Ahmedabad in September
Gujarat, India
Wait — Sep 22-Oct 1 Navratri is the only reason to be here in September. Pre-festival days workable but Oct-Feb better.
September is Ahmedabad's monsoon-easing month — 25-34C, rain reducing through the month, and the city beginning its Navratri prep build-up for the Sep 22 - Oct 1 2026 festival. Humidity still uncomfortable on most days, but the heritage circuit becomes workable in the second half of the month.
The September story
September splits into halves. Sep 1-15 is monsoon-tail — variable rain, humidity, weather-dependent heritage walks. Sep 16-30 sees clearer skies and pre-Navratri energy building. Navratri (Sep 22 - Oct 1 2026) is the biggest Gujarat festival — GMDC ground in Ahmedabad sees nightly garba until 2am, hotel rates surge 3-5x. Book Hyatt or House of MG eight weeks ahead if Navratri is the goal. Calico Museum's AC galleries excellent year-round. Sabarmati Ashram and the walled-city circuit gradually re-open to comfortable walking. The Lothal day trip becomes workable second half of the month. Manek Chowk regains its post-9pm rhythm. For a non-Navratri visit, October-February is meaningfully better. If you specifically want Navratri's garba energy, plan around Sep 22-Oct 1 and accept the 3-5x hotel surge.
