Ambaji in September

September is Ambaji at its peak — Bhadarvi Poonam is the year's defining mela. Book months ahead.
Peak crowds
September is one of Ambaji's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Pilgrimage peak September–December around major temple festivals; May–June heat suppresses visits.
September in Ambaji is Bhadarvi Poonam. The 2026 mela falls September 4-7 — the year's biggest Shakti Peeth gathering, drawing millions of pilgrims to the main temple. Monsoon eases through the month, daytime 22-30C, and the destination is at peak spiritual energy.
The September story
September is Ambaji's defining month. Bhadarvi Poonam falls on September 7 2026 (the full-moon day of Bhadrapad month) and brings the year's biggest Shakti Peeth mela — millions of pilgrims arrive over the 4-day window September 4-7 from across Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, walking processions to the temple, Gabbar Hill, and the temple-trust Bhojan Shala. The southwest monsoon retreats through the second half of September, daytime temperatures sit 22-30C with reduced rainfall and the post-monsoon green peak across the Aravalli foothills. Gabbar Hill's 999-step climb is workable in cool morning hours though still slippery in places. Kumbharia Jain Temples 24 km west are at post-monsoon peak quality but September visit-density is concentrated around the Bhadarvi Poonam mela. Hotels are at peak rates with virtually no availability around September 4-7 — book months ahead, or stay in Ahmedabad/Palanpur and day-trip in. Hotel Ambaji Inn, GTDC Toran and Bhojan Shala Yatri Niwas all completely booked. For serious Shakti Peeth pilgrims, September Bhadarvi Poonam is the year's peak experience; for leisure travellers, the crowds may overwhelm.
