Peak Season
Agra in November
Uttar Pradesh, India
November is October's twin with cooler edges. Temperatures drop to 12-28°C, the air stays clean, and the Taj Mahal continues its post-monsoon glow. Morning mist on the Yamuna is less dramatic than October but still present on cooler days. The marble is comfortable barefoot all day. Tourist numbers remain high â November is solidly peak season â but the Diwali rush (usually late October or early November) subsides by mid-month. Afternoons are warm enough for shirt-sleeves but evenings need a light jacket. The Taj turns a different color at every hour: pale blue at dawn, pure white at noon, honeyed gold at sunset. Few buildings on earth respond to light like this.
The November story
November is the pragmatist's Agra. October gets the glory, but November delivers nearly identical conditions with slightly fewer people and slightly lower prices. The 6 AM sunrise is colder â bring a jacket for the wait outside the gate â but the light is equally spectacular. The Taj's marble at noon in November sun has a brightness that almost hurts the eyes; sunglasses are essential. Fatehpur Sikri is at its best â the abandoned city's sandstone glows amber in November afternoon light, and the Buland Darwaza casts perfect geometric shadows across the courtyard. Itmad-ud-Daulah, the "Baby Taj," is worth a full hour now that the light is low enough to illuminate the pietra dura inlay work from the side rather than washing it out. Street food is in winter mode: hot jalebis, fresh petha straight from the karahi, aloo-puri at dawn stalls near Agra Fort. This is the month locals enjoy Agra too â which tells you everything.
