COLLECTION · 4 DESTINATIONS

The Haveli Trail of Rajasthan.

Rajasthan's merchant families built mansions that rival European palaces — but most tourists drive past them to reach forts. The Haveli Trail connects four regions where painted facades, carved jharokhas, and frescoed courtyards survive in various states of magnificent decay.

Why this collection exists

The merchant havelis of the Shekhawati region — built between 1750 and 1900, painted across every interior surface with frescoes that haven't been restored or whitewashed. Each pick is privately owned, walk-in accessible, and architecturally complete.

How the stops connect

Cluster in Mandawa, Nawalgarh, Fatehpur and Dunlod — all within 50 km of each other. A 3-day Shekhawati base (in a haveli-converted hotel) covers the trail comfortably. Avoid summer; the painted interiors aren't air-conditioned.
