रुद्रप्रयाग
Uttarakhand · Garhwal / Char Dham Route · 610m
अलकनंदा और मंदाकिनी का संगम — केदारनाथ और बद्रीनाथ का चौराहा।
Why Special

The stay decisions worth flagging in Rudraprayag.
No international chains or 5-star properties operate in Rudraprayag. The market is independent mid-range resorts and budget hotels serving Char Dham pilgrimage traffic. April falls in peak yatra season — book 6-8 weeks ahead. The Alaknanda-Mandakini confluence (Rudraprayag Sangam) is the geographic anchor; most properties are 1-3km from it. Road conditions on NH7 through town are functional but narrow; traffic backs up on yatra days. No property here offers non-vegetarian dining.
Upgrading from The Shangrila Resort (₹3-5k/night) to Sterling Kastoori Rudraprayag (₹7-12k/night) costs you ₹4-7k more per night. What that buys: a 2025-built property with verified spacious rooms and large bathrooms versus a self-described 'old property', plus the Vatika vegetarian restaurant and Chai & You café lounge against Shangrila's single-room dining setup. If you're doing a 2-night Char Dham stopover and want not to think about whether the hot water works, pay the delta. If you're moving on in a morning, Shangrila's riverbank location and food quality make the upgrade unnecessary.
Sterling Kastoori Rudraprayag
We pick this as the closest thing Rudraprayag has to a reliable anchor property. Launched May 2025, it's the only Sterling in Rudraprayag, and the chain's 6 other Uttarakhand properties give it operational depth that independent hotels here lack. Tripadvisor reviews from 2025 consistently cite spacious valley-view rooms and large clean bathrooms — two things that matter after a day on the Char Dham highway. The Vatika restaurant is pure vegetarian, which aligns with the destination. One honest c
The Shangrila Resort
We recommend this over Hotel Mandakini for the same budget range because The Shangrila has more recent, more specific user-generated feedback — October 2024 and January 2025 Tripadvisor reviews call out the riverbank position, modern room amenities, and food quality by name. At ₹3-5k, you're getting a riverside spot, a pure vegetarian restaurant with reviews that actually mention the food tasting good, and big parking (relevant if you're driving the yatra circuit). The 'old property' flag from a

सांस्कृतिक संदर्भ
Rudraprayag is one of the five sacred river confluences (Panch Prayag) where the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers meet. Named after Lord Rudra (Shiva), who is said to have appeared here as a celestial musician. The town is an important transit point on both the Kedarnath and Badrinath pilgrimage routes. It was also the site of a famous man-eating leopard hunted by Jim Corbett in 1926.
