Chadar Trek is an extreme 9-day, 62 km trek, topping out at 3,900 m. The route takes in Frozen river walking; Canyon camping; Nerak frozen waterfall. Best months: January–February. Watch points: -25C minimum; no evacuation; ice can crack. Fitness level: very high, permits required, not recommended for children under 18. Nearest hospital: Zero medical facilities on entire route. Nearest: SNM Hospital Leh 3-6hr walk + drive. Helicopter evacuation extremely difficult in narrow gorge. Medical kit must be comprehensive. Operator should carry oxygen cylinder. Network coverage: Zero signal on entire chadar. No BSNL, no Jio, no Airtel from Chilling to Nerak and back (7-8 days). Satellite phone MANDATORY. Register your satellite phone IMEI with DoT India before trek.

Solo/budget NOT recommended - extreme conditions require experienced operator. Operator cost includes Leh accommodation, transport to Chilling, all camping gear (sleeping bag, pad, tent), meals, cook, guide, porter, medical kit, satellite phone, evacuation insurance. Add Rs 15000-25000 for flights to Leh.
