Manali Long Weekend
Overnight Volvo from Delhi, two full days in Manali, Volvo back. The backbone of every North Indian's first mountain trip. Solang, Old Manali cafes, Atal Tunnel — all the greatest hits in a long weekend.
Highlights
Logistics
HRTC Volvo from Delhi ISBT Kashmere Gate (leaves 5-6PM, arrives 8-9AM). Book on hrtchp.com or redbus. Or fly to Kullu-Bhuntar airport (1hr) and drive 1hr to Manali. Volvo is half the experience though — the Kullu valley sunrise from the bus window is free.
Day by Day
Overnight Volvo (left Delhi previous evening). Arrive Manali 8-9AM. Check in at Old Manali or Naggar. Rest, shower, breakfast. Afternoon: Hadimba Temple (in a cedar forest, genuinely beautiful). Walk around Old Manali, find a riverside cafe. Early dinner — you'll be tired.
Solang Valley morning (paragliding in summer, snow activities in winter). Then drive through Atal Tunnel (9.02km, the engineering is wild) to Sissu on the other side. Sissu waterfall, Lahaul valley views. Lunch at Sissu. Return through tunnel. Evening: Vashisht hot springs.
Naggar Castle + Roerich Art Gallery (underrated, beautiful setting). Drive up to Brighu Lake trailhead for a short walk if fit. Or just do Old Manali properly — Johnson's Cafe, Lazy Dog, the whole circuit. Afternoon: Mall Road for shopping. Pack for evening Volvo.
Overnight Volvo (left Manali previous evening). Arrive Delhi early morning. Trip ends. Alternatively, take the 5PM Volvo and arrive Delhi by 6AM next day — gives you a morning in Manali.
