itinerary.oneDayHeading
Gurez in one day — not recommended, but if forced
Leave Srinagar by 4am to cross Razdan Pass (3300m) before noon fog. The pass has no facilities — make sure you've eaten.
Reach Dawar (~8am). Quick breakfast at a Dawar tea stall — noon chai + girda bread. Walk down to the Kishanganga river for the Habba Khatoon peak reflection shot.
Drive 15 minutes upstream to Tulail valley entrance. Stop at Achura, Baduab — Dardic wooden architecture, tiny Monpa-influenced kitchens. Do NOT push further into Tulail without permits in hand.
Turn back by 2pm. Razdan Pass must be recrossed before 5pm — fog and army restrictions close it overnight for civilians.
itinerary.badWeather
If Razdan looks bad on the Bandipora side, turn around — do not attempt. Return via Srinagar. A ruined Gurez day trip is still better than being stuck overnight with a car on a snow-bound pass. See scenario: Razdan Pass closes mid-trip.
itinerary.threeDayHeading
Day 1Srinagar → Razdan → Dawar
4am departure from Srinagar. Fuel up fully at Hazratbal — no fuel between Bandipora and Gurez.
Bandipora for breakfast (~7am). Last reliable ATM. Last mobile signal.
Razdan Pass crossing. Photo stop at the top only if weather is clear. Continue to Dawar (~12pm).
Check into a Dawar homestay (Habba Khatoon Homestay or Kaka Palace — both basic, both honest). Rest — you've gained 2400m in a day.
Walk to the Kishanganga river. Watch the light drop behind Habba Khatoon peak. Early night.
Day 2Tulail Valley
Permit check (your homestay will know the drill). Drive into Tulail — Achura, Baduab, Purana Tulail.
Lunch at a villager's home (arranged through homestay). Monpa-style rice-and-greens.
Return to Dawar. Afternoon trek up to the old wooden mosque at Markoot or simply rest.
Homestay dinner. Talk to your host — the Dardic-Shin history here is fascinating and the older generation remembers 1947 vividly.
Day 3Dawar → Habba Khatoon base → Srinagar
Short trek to Habba Khatoon peak base (not summit — that requires a mountaineering permit and a week of acclimatization).
Leave Dawar by 11am. Recross Razdan. Target Srinagar by sunset.
