November is excellent — 12-28°C, clear air, the ruins in warm light. The Dhamek Stupa at dawn with mist and monks is Sarnath's most photographed moment and November delivers it consistently. The Thai, Japanese, and Tibetan monasteries are active with winter-season events. The deer park deer are healthy and visible. The combined Varanasi-Sarnath visit is at its most comfortable. Live in Sarnath
Simple homestay run by a Jain family. Home-cooked vegetarian meals, walking distance to the stupa. The family genuinely enjoys hosting and will share local history. ₹600 per night including meals.
Signaturenorth indian thali
Opens 7am — the only spot offering breakfast in the Sarnath core. Stick to north Indian; the south Indian is competent but the kitchen runs it less often.
Signaturemomos
Open from 7 am for breakfast tingmo and butter tea; the kitchen winds down by 9 pm. Cash-friendly; some staff understand limited English so point at the laminated menu.
Signaturesimple veg thali
Set meal times only — typically lunch 12-1:30pm and dinner 7-8:30pm. Treat it as a pilgrim canteen rather than a restaurant; portion sizes and menu vary day to day.
