Cyclone watch holds through December 20 historically — Vardah (Chennai December 12, 2016) and Michaung (Chennai December 5, 2023) both brought heavy rain inland to Vedanthangal; the sanctuary closes for 1-2 days during cyclone events. Day-trip from Chennai 75km via NH-32, 2 hours off-peak — weekend Friday-Sunday Chennai-Bangalore traffic adds 30-45 minutes.
