Chandrashila — the 4000m summit 1.5km above Tungnath.
Pilgrims to Tungnath (3680m, highest of Panch Kedar) turn back at the temple — but a 1hr summit climb to Chandrashila 4000m opens a 270-degree Garhwal-Kumaon Himalaya panorama almost no Char-Dham itinerary includes.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
Chandrashila ("Moon Rock") sits 1.5km above the Tungnath shrine via a steep but well-trod path. Summit views include Nanda Devi 7816m + Trishul 7120m + Chaukhamba 7138m + Bandarpunch 6316m — arguably the densest peak-cluster sight in the W Himalayas. Local legend: Rama meditated here post-Ravana victory; the moonstone left from his crown gave the peak its name. Best 5:30-7am for clear views before clouds rise. Apr-Nov accessible; Dec-Mar 1-2m snowfall closes the trail (experienced winter trekkers do guided snow ascents).
