Surang Tila.
Most Sirpur visitors stop at Lakshmana Temple, photograph it, and leave - without walking the 800m to the larger excavated platform 100m past the museum.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
The largest temple at Sirpur, excavated only between 2006-07 - a 30-foot raised platform with five sanctums (Shiva and Vishnu), built under Shivagupta Balarjuna in the 7th-8th century. Locally the mound was used as a tunnel-system (surang) for centuries before excavation. Climb the stone steps to the platform for the cleanest read of the site's scale.
