Mawjymbuin Cave Shivling Stalagmite.
Mawsynram is so overshadowed by its rainfall record that the cave gets second billing in every itinerary. The shivling formation isn't in most tourist literature and is interpreted only by Khasi caretakers, so its significance is mostly word-of-mouth.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
A natural limestone cathedral where mineral-laden water drips for millennia have built a stalagmite resembling a Shiva lingam, with a perfectly aligned stalactite hanging directly above. Hindu pilgrims and Khasi villagers both venerate the formation, and the chamber air stays cool 18-20°C year-round. The cave is shallow — you walk in about 100 metres before the formation appears — but the rim-light at the chamber mouth at 2-3 PM frames the lingam in a halo of refracted daylight that you cannot recreate with a torch.
