Cherrapunji (Sohra)
Meghalaya · East Khasi Hills · 1,484m
Where clouds live — living root bridges, Nohkalikai Falls, and one of the wettest places on Earth.
Why Special
Cherrapunji (locally Sohra) held the world rainfall record and still competes with nearby Mawsynram. The living root bridges of Nongriat are a UNESCO tentative site — bridges grown from rubber fig tree roots over decades by Khasi tribes. Nohkalikai Falls (335m) is India's tallest plunge waterfall. Seven Sisters Falls, Mawsmai Cave, and the double-decker root bridge are bucket-list experiences. The trek to Nongriat's double-decker root bridge (3,500 steps) is one of India's most iconic hikes.
