Malvan in March
Maharashtra, India
Go March — last scuba month before June closure, shoulder rates, Hapus orchards opening.
March is Malvan's shoulder month. Temperatures climb to 24-33°C with humidity at 60-65%, the Arabian Sea stays calm enough for Sindhudurg Fort boat access (9am-5pm, ₹50-100 RT) and Tarkarli scuba (visibility drops to 6-10m as plankton bloom begins but still very workable), and Malvani thali kitchens at their relaxed-shoulder-rate best. Hapus mango season opens in the Sindhudurg-Devgad belt — orchards 30-50km north begin first harvest. Konkan Railway runs full schedule. Holi falls Mar 3 — Mumbai families head to Konkan; weekend pull moderate. Sindhudurg-Chipi flights operational.
The March story
Drive 480km from Mumbai via NH-66 — 9-10 hours, or Konkan Railway to Kudal + 40-min taxi, or fly Mumbai-Sindhudurg/Chipi. Sindhudurg Fort boat 9am-5pm; arrive at Malvan jetty by 9:30am for the freshest morning crossing — shared ₹50-100, private ₹500-1500, ASI ₹15. Tarkarli scuba ₹2000-3500/dive — visibility 6-10m, still good for first-time divers and PADI courses. Stays: MTDC Tarkarli Resort water-villa ₹3000-5500/night, private homestays ₹2200-4500/night at 10-15% off February peak. Eat: Hotel Atithi Bamboo, Chivla Beach Hotel, Malvan Tarari — Malvani thali ₹350-550. Combine with Devgad (40km north) for Hapus orchard visits + Sindhudurg-Tarkarli scuba arc. Best for budget-conscious scuba travellers vs December peak.
