Garhwal Rifles Regimental Museum — 1887 cantonment archive.
Lansdowne is the regimental HQ of the Garhwal Rifles (raised 1887) — one of the Indian Army's most-decorated regiments, with members awarded the Victoria Cross, Param Vir Chakra and multiple Mahavir+Vir Chakras. The museum is open to civilians but bypassed by most weekenders chasing viewpoints.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
The Garhwal Rifles Regimental Museum sits inside the cantonment area (civilian entry permitted with ID at gate). Galleries cover the regiment from its 1887 raising as the 39th Bengal Infantry, through WWI (gallantry at Festubert and Loos), WWII (North Africa, Burma), the 1962 Sino-Indian War (Battle of Tongroong, where the 4th Garhwal made one of the most-cited Indian stands), and the 1999 Kargil War where the 18 Garhwal lost 50+ men retaking Tololing. Photography restricted in some galleries (live regimental archive). Open Tue-Sun 10am-4pm; closed Mon and on full unit-deployment days.
