👨👩👧 Family: elderly challenging — high altitude, long drives between sites
Three monasteries, a moonscape, and 1000-year-old murals that make art historians weep — all on a single day trip from Leh.
Lamayuru sits on a lunar landscape (dried lakebed). Alchi has 10th-century Kashmiri-Buddhist murals that are the finest surviving examples of their kind. Likir has a giant Maitreya Buddha. All three are on the Srinagar-Leh highway, doable as a day loop from Leh.
