Lachung
Sikkim · North Sikkim · 2,600m
Gateway to Yumthang Valley and Zero Point — rhododendron paradise in North Sikkim.
Why Special
Lachung is a tiny village at 2,600m in North Sikkim, the mandatory overnight stop for visiting Yumthang Valley (Valley of Flowers, 25km ahead) and Zero Point (Yumesamdong, 49km ahead at 4,572m). Yumthang's rhododendron bloom (April-May) is legendary — valleys carpeted in red, pink, and white. Zero Point has snow year-round. The drive from Gangtok (125km, 6-7 hours) crosses Chungthang and follows the Lachung Chu river through dramatic gorges. Lachung Monastery and the Lepcha tribal culture add depth. North Sikkim Protected Area Permit required.
