Almost every operator runs Lachen straight to Gurudongmar at 4am, skipping Chopta on the return because the convoy windows close by 1pm. The valley sits 13km off the Lachen-Thangu road on a separate spur most drivers will not detour to without paying.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
A high-altitude meadow valley at around 4,000m where the Lachen Chu meanders through alpine grass before cutting into a steeper gorge. Rhododendron carpets in May, stretches of late-summer blue poppies in July-August. No tea stalls, no signage — only yak herders during the warmer months.
