Tholung Monastery.
Tholung sits inside the Dzongu Lepcha reserve in north Sikkim — entry needs both a Dzongu Inner Line Permit and a separate Tholung-trail permit. The monastery is opened only at the Bhumchu festival every three years; outside that window, day-visits are by exception.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
Founded in 1789 inside the Khangchendzonga buffer zone, Tholung holds the ritual implements that the major Sikkim monasteries hand-carry up here for storage between cycles. Sacred Lepcha geography — a fold of the river valley that Lepcha tradition reads as the inner sanctum of the Kanchenjunga deity. Rhododendron and cardamom plantation walk-in trail.
