Opened in 2010, Chez Christophe is the oldest café on Gokarna's Middle Beach — a genuine French kitchen turning out grilled fish, fresh salads and crème brûlée that travellers compare favourably to Goa's better restaurants. Casual, arty and unhurried, with evening live music, it is the standout sit-down meal of the Gokarna beach circuit.
Tip: It has no signboard — Google Maps gets you close, then ask locals; do not skip it. Best in the evening for the live music and the cooler air. Pricier than the backpacker cafés but worth it once; try the crème brûlée.
Signature: Wood-fired pizza and chicken ghee roast with a cliffside sea view
A cliffside café at Zostel Gokarna above Kudle Beach, one of the most scenic eating spots in town with sweeping Arabian Sea views. It is known for hearty breakfasts and wood-fired pizzas, and reviewers single out a chicken ghee roast that some rate above versions in Bangalore — a coastal Karnataka dish done well on the cliff.
Tip: The cliffside view over Kudle Beach is the reason to come — breakfast or sunset are the best times. The chicken ghee roast is the surprise standout among the traveller-café menu. Reachable on the Kudle cliff path.
Signature: Beachfront thali and grilled fish with an Om Beach view
The long-standing landmark café on Om Beach — often called the only heritage café on the beach — and a fixture of Gokarna's traveller circuit, attached to Namaste guesthouse. The draw is the location: tables right above the crescent of Om Beach, the classic Gokarna sunset spot.
Tip: Come for the view and the setting more than for fast service — being the established café on the beach, it gets crowded and the kitchen can be slow at peak times. Order early, settle in for the sunset. It also has rooms if you want to stay on the beach.
Signature: Masala dosa with filter coffee
A local favourite for authentic South Indian food on Gokarna's temple-town Main Street — crisp dosas, idlis and thalis at pocket-friendly prices. While Gokarna's beaches are full of traveller cafés, Pai is where the town itself eats, the real South Indian breakfast spot for pilgrims visiting the Mahabaleshwara temple.
Tip: Eat here in the town rather than only at the beach cafés — it is cheaper, faster and more authentically South Indian. The masala dosa and filter coffee are the morning order. Pure-veg, fitting for the temple town.

A small pure-veg eatery near Gokarna Main Beach, one of the most recommended family restaurants in town — modest seating, tidy, and turning out a wide spread of South Indian dishes plus juices and shakes at reasonable prices. The dependable, unfussy meal for travellers and families staying near the town beach.
Tip: Good for a quick, cheap South Indian breakfast or lunch near the Main Beach — idli, dosa and poori saagu are the picks. It is small, so it can fill up; turnover is fast.
