Gir National Park in June
Gujarat, India
Skip — park closes Jun 16 for monsoon breeding closure; reopen Oct 16.
June is Gir's shutdown pivot — the park officially closes Jun 16 for the 4-month monsoon breeding closure, with the last jeep safari running mid-June. June 1-15 operates with reduced flow as heat and pre-monsoon humidity peak. Devalia Safari Park follows the same closure schedule.
The June story
Gir National Park follows a strict monsoon closure — Jun 16 to Oct 15 each year, with the breeding season giving lions, leopards, and the 300+ bird species their undisturbed forest. Pre-closure June (1-15) operates with brutal heat and pre-monsoon humidity; safari operators reduce capacity through the first half of the month as the season winds down. The Maldhari herder cattle camps continue (they live inside the forest year-round), but accessible visitor circuits cease. Wildlife travellers should sequence Gir for January-April or October-December — June represents the last marginal window before the 4-month closure. Sasan-area lodges run reduced-rate off-season packages July-September for travellers who want the lodge experience without core-zone safaris.
