Japfu Peak Ridge.
Most Dzukou trekkers stop at the valley floor and turn back; the Japfu add-on adds a hard 6-hour day and is rarely sold as a package.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
At 3,014 m the highest peak in Kohima district, sharing the same range as Dzukou and reachable as a side-traverse from the Dzukou rest house by experienced trekkers. The summit ridge holds the 109-foot rhododendron tree certified in the Guinness Book as the world's tallest, blooming crimson in March-April. From the top, Saramati and the Patkai roll east into Myanmar and Kohima town is a grid of corrugated roofs to the north. Best: March-April for rhododendron bloom; November for clearest distance views. Reach: Day-traverse from Dzukou rest house via the south ridge, 6 hours up-and-back; guide mandatory, arrange via Viswema village council. Tip: Camp at the rest house the night before and start by 4am to clear the summit before mid-morning cloud roll-in.
