Coimbatore in March
Tamil Nadu, India
Peak crowds
March is one of Coimbatore's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Busiest Oct–Mar during cool dry season; Apr–May extreme heat is quietest.
Coimbatore in March is the transition month at the upper edge of comfortable weather. Daytime 30-34C, nights 21-24C, humidity climbing toward 65 percent in the last fortnight, rainfall under 30mm. Some years Maha Shivaratri falls in early March (2027 falls on Mar 7) — the Isha Yoga Center hosts the same 8-10 lakh attendee overnight celebration at the Adiyogi Aalayam meditation hall, traffic congestion from Coimbatore city to the Velliangiri foothills 30km west queues 15-25km on the night. Adiyogi statue (112-foot Guinness-record Shiva bust, installed 2017, 6:30am-9:30pm free) workable mornings before mid-day heat. Marudhamalai Hill Temple (15km, the 12th-century Subrahmanya temple at 500m on Marudhamalai Hill, 7am-8pm) workable but the temple-elevation 500m provides 3-4C relief over city. Perur Pateeswarar Temple (10km, 1000-year-old Chola Shiva), VOC Park, Gass Forest Museum (12km, 1902 Forest Dept, ₹50, closed Sun) at full operations. Velliangiri 7-peak trek (1840m sacred peak, 7-hour up + 5 down) workable but start by 5am to descend before mid-day heat.
