30km cycling descent through leopard territory (Kumbhalgarh to Ranakpur). Finish at the 1444-pillar Jain temple. Rent bikes at Kumbhalgarh.
Climb the narrow internal stair (when ASI allows) for a tower-on-tower view of the Vijay Stambh from above. The carvings are densely populated with digambara Jain Tirthankara figures — quite different from the Vaishnava-Shaiva iconography on the larger tower. Chittor was a major Jain centre from at least the Kushana period; Acharya Haribhadrasuri (6th c.) and Virasena (9th c.) wrote here.
Sit on the kund steps in the morning while pilgrims feed the fish, then walk the short ridge path west to look down on the plain where the Khilji and Mughal siege camps stood. The Padmini Palace lies a few minutes south — many guides will tell the (literary, 1540) Padmavat tale here. Treat the chronology honestly: historical Padmini is contested.

Barbarik is the only sit-down kitchen inside the fort itself, run by owner Rishi with his mother and maternal uncle cooking the daily Mewar thali on-site. The churma laddoos are rolled fresh in the morning; the haldi ki sabzi (raw turmeric root cooked with curd) is a winter-only Mewar dish that vanishes outside November to February. Ranked #1 of 37 restaurants in Chittaurgarh on Tripadvisor with 4.9 stars and Google sitting at 4.9 across 860+ reviews.
Tip: Sit on the courtyard outside if the weather permits — sandstone walls of the fort frame the meal. The fort closes at 6 PM, so plan a late lunch (1-2 PM) rather than dinner.
Signature: dal baati churma
Locally-run dhaba-style Rajasthani restaurant in Chittorgarh near the Roadways bus stand — note: NOT part of the Chokhi Dhani branded resort group from Jaipur, despite the shared name. Independent kitchen with the same dal-baati template.
Tip: Don't expect the Jaipur Chokhi Dhani village-experience here — this is a sit-down restaurant only. Order the missi roti with churma; that combination is what locals come for.

Located at the entry to Chittor Fort, Gangour is the most consistently cited Rajasthani thali spot in town for visitors coming down from the fort. The kitchen lets you customise spice level — useful since Chittor's mathania-chilli dal baati can be very hot.
Tip: Free churma dessert refill comes by default. Ask for the unlimited dal baati option and skip the laminated à-la-carte menu.
Signature: veg manchurian with hakka noodles
Mid-tier pure-veg restaurant in Chittorgarh city, ranked highly on TripAdvisor for Indian-Chinese — the local fallback when families want something other than dal-baati for a meal.
Tip: Useful for kids — the Indo-Chinese menu is the predictable break from the Rajasthani thali rotation around the fort.

Nine-room heritage guesthouse converted from a traditional Southern Rajasthan haveli, located inside the walls of Chittorgarh Fort itself — one of the very few places to dine within the fort. On-site restaurant for residents and pre-booked outside guests.
Tip: Dining is for residents primarily — call ahead to confirm the kitchen will host outside diners that day. The fort gates close to vehicles after dusk.
