Uttarakhand · Garhwal · 2,118m🚗 SUV recommended — some unpaved forest roads to Deoban/Tiger Falls
👨👩👧 Family: moderate — remote, limited facilities, some trekking required
A cantonment town the army forgot to tell tourists about — Tiger Falls, Deoban's ancient forests, and zero commercial tourism.
Chakrata is an army cantonment at 2,118m that remains genuinely off-the-grid. Tiger Falls (50m) is one of the highest direct waterfalls accessible by a short trek. Deoban at 2,900m has ancient deodar forests and snow views. Chilmiri Neck offers panoramic Himalayan views. The Jaunsar-Bawar tribal community has unique customs including polyandry historically. Chakrata is what Mussoorie was 50 years ago — uncommercialized, pine-scented, and genuinely peaceful.
