Caution
Alwar in April
Rajasthan, India
April heats Alwar past 35°C and climbing. Sariska becomes a serious wildlife safari — the dry heat forces tigers to waterholes at predictable times, making April paradoxically the best month for sightings. But the heat is no joke. Bhangarh bakes by noon.
The April story
April in Sariska is for serious wildlife watchers who understand that discomfort and sightings are correlated. The forest is bone-dry, the waterholes are few, and the tigers must drink. Guides position jeeps near active water sources and wait. Patience at 38°C in an open jeep is the price; a tiger walking to water 30 metres from you is the reward. Book consecutive morning safaris (5:30am starts) for the best odds. Outside Sariska, Alwar city is too hot for casual exploring — do heritage visits in the first hour after sunrise or the last hour before sunset. Siliserh Lake remains beautiful but the surrounding hills are brown. Bhangarh should be a dawn-only visit. Carry minimum 3 litres of water per person on safari. April is not for everyone, but for tiger seekers, it's the month.
