Snow Leopard Territory — Where to See the Ghost Cat.

The snow leopard is the world's most elusive big cat. India has an estimated 700+ — the second-largest population after China. Seeing one is not guaranteed. It is never guaranteed. But these locations give you the best odds, in the right months, with the right guides.

Why this collection exists

An estimated 700 snow leopards in India, 90% in Hemis, Kibber, and the Spiti high meadows. The list narrows to the three best probability zones; sightings still need 7-10 day patience and a registered tracker-guide.

How the stops connect

Season is January-February only — when ungulate prey moves down to lower meadows, the leopards follow. Below-zero gear required; most operators include cold-weather kit. Fly to Leh or drive into Kibber 2-3 days before the tracking starts to acclimatise.
