किन बातों से बचें
- Crocodile breeding closure (May 1–Jul 31)
Park COMPLETELY CLOSED during crocodile nesting season. Zero entry, zero boat hiring. All permits halted. Plan safaris only Aug–Apr. This is non-negotiable and strictly enforced.
- Saltwater crocodile risk
Bhitarkanika is salt-water croc reserve (~1700 crocs); boat safaris expose you to them at water level. Stay in boat, follow guide instructions strictly. Croc attacks are rare but real.
- Boat-dependent operations
No jeep option. Entire safari depends on boat + fuel availability + tide. Bad weather/high tide can cancel departures. Early morning departures (with rising tide) are most reliable.
- Sparse online booking
Unlike Kaziranga/Manas, online pre-booking is NOT primary (ecotourodisha.com exists but slow/unreliable). On-the-spot booking at forest office is norm. Peak season (Nov–Feb) still books same-day but lines form early; advance booking is safest.
- Foreigner fees spike (entry permit + guide)
Entry permit ₹20 (Indians) vs ₹100 (Foreigners); guide charges often double for foreigners. No official published foreigner rate for guide, so negotiate or use ecotourism operators (who charge commission but handle it).
- August–September monsoon risk
Park officially open Aug–Sep, but monsoon rains + rough water + poor visibility make safaris less reliable. Best to avoid; Oct onwards is clearer.
