Glenburn began as a Scottish tea company's venture in 1859 and passed into the hands of the Prakashes, the 'Chaiwala family' pioneering Indian tea cultivation. Today, the estate spans 1,600 acres—600 under Darjeeling First Flush tea, 1,000 forest with two rivers. The property restored in 2002, offers eight rooms across two bungalows, each uniquely decorated with local art and textiles. The view: Kanchenjunga (the third-highest mountain in the world) from the verandahs on clear mornings. Guests participate in tea factory tours, tastings, cooking lessons, fishing, river rafting, and guided forest walks. All meals, excursions, and tea tastings are included in the rate. The owners are embedded in the property—you are not guests of a corporation but visitors to a working family estate.
