Alphonso mango country — where the king of fruits meets Konkan history
Why Special
Ratnagiri is the Alphonso mango capital of the world — the Hapus mangoes from here are shipped globally. Beyond the orchards, the town has genuine history: Thibaw Palace (where Burma's last king was exiled), Ratnadurg Fort overlooking the sea, and Jaigad Fort with its lighthouse. The Konkan railway journey to Ratnagiri is one of India's most scenic train rides.

The stay decisions worth flagging in Ratnagiri.
Ratnagiri is the Konkan district capital known for Alphonso mangoes (Apr-May peak) and Thibaw Palace (last king of Burma in exile). Stay scene is limited — The Konkan Resort, a few 3-star business hotels, MTDC Ratnagiri. Most beach visitors skip Ratnagiri town and stay in Ganpatipule (30 km) or Tarkarli. Come for the mango farm visits and the Konkan heritage, then sleep elsewhere.
The Konkan Resort is the main quality stay in Ratnagiri — no major upgrade comparison exists. MTDC Ratnagiri exists as a budget alternative but with basic facilities only. The choice is really whether to stay in Ratnagiri at all vs. Ganpatipule (30 km, better beach) for Konkan-coast trips.
The Konkan Resort
One of Ratnagiri's established mid-range resorts, Konkan coastal architecture, good base for Alphonso-mango farm visits in April-May. Rooms basic by 5-star standards but best available in Ratnagiri proper.
