The temple carries an unusual Hindu-Buddhist crossover: the carvings include Vishnu, Shiva and Parvati alongside Buddhist saints, which fits Nalanda's role as the syncretic learning centre of its time. Chhath Puja (Oct/Nov) turns the pond beside the shrine into a major local festival site.
