Veda Peak.
Mon visitors prioritise Longwa for the border-house and skip Veda; the road is unsealed and 4WD-only after October rain.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
Highest peak in Mon district at roughly 1,950 m, a 3-4 hour pre-dawn drive from Mon town through Konyak hamlets. On clear winter mornings the silver thread of the Brahmaputra is visible across the Assam plains and the Patkai range fades into Myanmar to the east. The summit clearing has a small stone cairn and a single watchtower built by the Forest Department. Best: November-February for the Brahmaputra view; sunrise window 5.30-7am. Reach: Roughly 50 km from Mon town via Aboi-Chen road then unsealed forest track, 4 hours one-way by 4WD only. Tip: Leave Mon by 2.30am to catch sunrise; carry a fleece — temperatures drop below 5C even in March.
