Ungma Village.
The 700-year lineage and active morungs are documented mostly on Mokokchung district government pages; tour itineraries skip Ungma in favour of Longkhum further out.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
Three kilometres south of Mokokchung town, Ungma is the oldest Ao Naga village and the dispersal point from which six Ao clans say they migrated after leaving their ancestral home at Chungliyimti. Wooden Tsongki morungs still stand at the village gates with the distinctive Ao log-drum (sungkong) houses on either side, and elders run an informal oral-history corner near the central church. Best: April-May around Moatsu festival (1-3 May) when traditional dress and granary rites are public. Reach: 3 km south of Mokokchung town on the Mariani road, 10 min shared taxi or 35 min walk from main bazaar. Tip: Ask at the village council office (Putu Menden) before photographing morungs — some are still in active ritual use.
