Kinner Kailash Parikrama — the 48km Shravan Maas pilgrim circuit at 4865m.
Most Kinnaur visitors photograph the 6050m Kinner Kailash massif from Kalpa village square and assume the peak is unreachable. They miss the 48km parikrama (circumambulation) that crosses 4865m at the Shivling base — a window that opens only ~July-September each year, with the holiest sub-window in Shravan Maas (Jul 30 - Aug 28, 2026) when Hindu+Buddhist pilgrims walk together.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
The yatra base is Tangling village, ~35km from Reckong Peo. The route covers Tangling → Mallink → Charang La (4865m) → Chitkul, taking 3-4 days for fit trekkers; pilgrims often do longer. The natural shivling at the top is one of the rare Hindu-Buddhist syncretic shrines where Buddhist Bhotia families and Kinnauri Hindus offer together. HP Tourism + District Administration Kinnaur officially clear the route once weather stabilises (typically late June to early July 2026); registration is required at Reckong Peo or Tangling. Altitude reality: 4865m is no joke — minimum 2 nights acclimatisation in Kalpa/Reckong Peo before starting.
