Semoma Fort.
The eco-tourism narrative around Khonoma's green-village status drowns out the warrior-history layer; most homestay guests don't get walked here.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
Hilltop ruin at the eastern edge of Khonoma village where Angami warriors fought their final stand against the British in November 1879 after the Battle of Khonoma broke the back of Naga resistance. A stone inscription erected by the village council names the fallen and Major John Butler's contemporary report calling it 'one of the strongest forts in North East India' is reproduced on a brass plaque nearby. Walls are largely gone but the terraced fortifications and gate posts remain. Best: October-March for clear weather and dry trail. Reach: 20-min uphill walk from Khonoma village square via the eastern church path; ask at the village tourism desk for a guide. Tip: Pair with the Angami martyrs' tombstones at the village entry — the fort makes more sense after reading the names.
