The world's only yak-research institute is in Dirang — established 1989 by ICAR, with the experimental yak farm set up in 1995 at Nyukmadung (31km, 2,750m). Almost no traveller knows it's open to visitors.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
Pre-arranged visits show you the herd (~400 yaks), churpi (hard yak cheese) processing, and the only churra-gombu and yak-butter production line in India. The NRCY directly supports Brokpa herder communities across the high Arunachal-Bhutan border belt.
