Where the hippie trail ends — flea markets, trance parties, and Chapora Fort sunsets
Why Special
Anjuna is where Goa's counterculture was born. In the 1960s, hippies discovered this rocky beach and never left — the trance music scene, flea markets, and bohemian vibe all started here. The Wednesday Flea Market (now a bit commercial but still worth visiting) has been running since the 70s. Curlies and Shiva Valley are legendary party venues. Chapora Fort (made famous by Dil Chahta Hai) overlooks Vagator from the hilltop.

The stay decisions worth flagging in Anjuna.
Anjuna's stay scene has shifted in the last 5 years — the beach-front backpacker shacks are being priced out by Assagao-Anjuna villa rentals catering to the long-stay crowd (long-weekenders from Delhi/Mumbai, digital nomads, influencers). Mid-range hotels are fewer. For first-time visitors: hotel near the beach. For repeat/group visitors: villa in Assagao (5 min inland).
Villa rentals in Anjuna/Assagao run ₹15-30k/night for 2-bedroom — what you get: private pool, kitchen, full privacy, no hotel staff. Surya Beach Anjuna gives you a mid-range hotel with pool and restaurant at ₹5-7k. The delta buys you privacy and space for a group, not better beach access.
La Marama Villa (Anjuna)
2BHK private villa in the heart of Anjuna, featured in Elle Decor. White interiors, selected luxury furnishings, artisanal accents. Villa rental means no hotel service but complete privacy — kitchen, living room, pool. Rent the whole villa for a group of 4-6; the per-person rate beats any 5-star hotel.
Surya Beach Anjuna
4-star modern hotel, 10-minute walk to Anjuna beach, pool and restaurant on-site. Good for first-time Anjuna visitors who want hotel-service reliability rather than a villa rental. Consistently mid-tier rating.
No location pick here that's worth the flag. See alternatives below.
Assagao Boutique Villa (via StayVista / Airbnb)
Assagao (5 min inland from Anjuna) is Goa's hipster village — concept stores, cafes, designer villas nestled between coconut trees. Designer villa rentals here range ₹20-50k per night for 3-4 BHK. The design detail is the pitch — original art, imported linen, selected book shelves. Not a hotel, a home you've borrowed.
