Maharashtra's southernmost hill station — Sahyadri waterfalls, king cobras, and monsoon magic
Why Special
Amboli is the last hill station in the Sahyadri range before it enters Goa — and one of the wettest places in Maharashtra. During monsoon, waterfalls erupt everywhere — Amboli Falls, Shirgaonkar Falls, Nangarta Falls, and dozens of unnamed cascades along the ghat road. The forest is a biodiversity hotspot — king cobras, Malabar pit vipers, and endemic frogs. The drive from Goa (90km) is stunning.

The stay decisions worth flagging in Amboli.
Amboli is a Sahyadri hill station on the Maharashtra-Goa border — best known for monsoon waterfalls (Amboli Falls, Nangarta) and herpetology (Malabar pit viper, Amboli toad). Stay scene is basic hill-station resorts (Whistling Woods, Green Valley, MTDC). Peak season is monsoon (Jun-Sep) when everywhere else closes access; dry season (Oct-May) makes the town mostly quiet. Combine with Sawantwadi (ganjifa cards) and enter Goa from the south.
Amboli has basic hill-station resorts (Whistling Woods, Green Valley, MTDC Amboli) — no major brand hotels. The experience upgrade from basic to mid-range is modest. Most visitors stay 1 night for Amboli Falls (monsoon only) and drive through Sawantwadi to Goa. Not a destination for multi-night stays.
Whistling Woods Resort Amboli
Most consistently rated Amboli resort — forest-edge location, mid-range rooms, restaurant serving Malvani food. Good for the monsoon-waterfall weekend from Goa or Kolhapur. Book ahead for Aug-Sep; off-season availability is easy.
