Razdan Pass closes mid-trip (Gurez / Tulail valleys).

You are inside Gurez or Tulail valley and Razdan Pass (3300m) closes unexpectedly due to snow or landslide. There is no alternative road out. Stay put at your homestay, do not attempt the pass in civilian vehicles, and wait for BRO to clear the road. Carry 48 hours of food buffer and cash — homestays run on landline, UPI is down, and the only exit is the pass itself.

If

You are inside Gurez or Tulail valley and Razdan Pass (3300m) closes unexpectedly due to snow or landslide.

Then

There is no alternative road out. Stay put at your homestay, do not attempt the pass in civilian vehicles, and wait for BRO to clear the road. Carry 48 hours of food buffer and cash — homestays run on landline, UPI is down, and the only exit is the pass itself.

Step-by-step protocol

  1. 01

    Step 1

DO NOT attempt the pass yourself. BRO uses bulldozers and snow-clearers; civilian SUVs get stuck and block the rescue lane.

  2. 02

    Step 2

Tell your homestay owner immediately. Most have VHF radio contact with BRO posts and can report your status.

  3. 03

    Step 3

Stay warm. Nights in Gurez hit –5°C even in May. Your homestay has limited wood heating.

  4. 04

    Step 4

Ration food. Most homestays carry 48–72 hours of stock; do not demand 3 full meals a day if the closure looks long.

  5. 05

    Step 5

Phone the Army Gurez Sector helpline via the homestay landline if you have an active medical emergency. They have helicopter evac capability for critical cases.

  6. 06

    Step 6

Permits are typically extended automatically during closures — do not panic about LoC permit expiry.
