August keeps the monsoon flowing through Bundi. The stepwells are at maximum water level — Raniji ki Baori, the most famous, has water climbing halfway up its carved columns. The town turns green in a way that dry-season visitors can't imagine. Teej festival brings colour and celebration to the old city. Independence Day is a local affair. Humidity is high but temperatures (27-33°C) are the most tolerable of summer.

Where to stay in Bundi

  • Kasera Heritage View

    ₹800-1800/night
    heritage guesthouse · Old city

Another restored haveli but quieter than the backpacker spots. The owner Kesri Singh is a fountain of Bundi history. Rooms are small but atmospheric — carved wooden doors, painted walls, courtyard with pigeons. He arranges stepwell tours and village visits.

  • Bundi Vilas

    ₹600-1500/night
haveli guesthouse · Below Taragarh Fort

A 300-year-old haveli with rooms overlooking Nawal Sagar. The rooftop is the best sunset spot in Bundi. Run by a local family who cook Rajasthani dinner on request. The murals in the common areas are older than most museums. Backpacker favourite for a reason.
