A 14th-century Tughlaq audience hall (later used by Qutb-Shahi Governor Shitab Khan in the 16th century) that now functions as the ASI sculpture museum holding the recovered Kakatiya-era panels, lintels and Nandi fragments excavated from the fort site.
A 12th-century Kakatiya temple to Goddess Padmakshi (Padmakshamma) flooded with women devotees during the Bathukamma festival (Sep-Oct). The four-sided quadrangular Annakonda granite pillar carries Jain carvings and inscriptions — rare evidence of the brief Kakatiya-Jain syncretic phase before the dynasty shifted Shaiva.

WHERE TO EAT · 6 VERIFIED PICKS
Signature: Chicken biryani
A long-running budget biryani standby in Hanamkonda's Chowrasta, beside Hotel Ashoka opposite the Dargah — popular with students from nearby NIT Warangal and local families for tasty food at low prices. Not a heritage address, but the everyday neighbourhood biryani that locals name first.
Tip: Come for the biryani at a sharp price rather than the ambience — it is a no-frills, busy place. The takeaway counter (a separate adjacent unit) is the faster option at peak lunch. Walk-in only.
Signature: Pot chicken biryani with cashew, tomato and raisin
The biryani address most cited inside Warangal city — Hotel Ratna's restaurant on MGM Road near Pochamma Maidan is known well beyond its hotel guests for a distinctive pot chicken biryani layered with cashew, tomato and raisin. Central, 2km from both the bus stand and railway station, it's the dependable city-centre sit-down meal.
Tip: The pot chicken biryani is the signature — sweeter and richer than a standard Hyderabadi dum because of the raisins and cashews. À la carte only, so order starters and breads alongside. Easy stop between Warangal Fort and the Thousand Pillar Temple.
Signature: Lollipop biryani
Billed as Warangal's first open-garden restaurant, Hungry Birds on New Bus Stand Road in Hanamkonda is best known for its lollipop biryani — a single-diner portion topped with chicken lollipops that locals routinely send first-timers to try. The garden-stall format makes it a relaxed evening pick.
Tip: Order the lollipop biryani — it's the dish the place is identified with. Evenings in the open-garden section are the nicest; the food-stall layout means you can mix biryani with Chinese starters. Near Kalyan Jewellers, easy to find.
Signature: Spicy dhaba-style chicken curry with tandoori roti
Warangal's most reliably top-ranked restaurant — Tripadvisor lists it #1 in the city — and a roughly 25-year-old highway dhaba on the Kazipet approach. Spicy dhaba-style chicken, fresh tandoori roti and biryani at reasonable prices make it the standard road-meal halt for anyone driving in from Hyderabad.
Tip: It is a highway dhaba in spirit — go for the chicken curry and tandoori roti rather than the multi-cuisine menu. Open 11am-10.30pm; the dinner crowd is heaviest. Convenient first or last stop on the Hyderabad-Warangal drive via NH-163.
Signature: North Indian mithai and namkeen
A well-established Hanamkonda sweet shop near the Sai Baba Temple, Ramdev Sweet House is a local default for festival mithai, fresh namkeen and quick snacks — the kind of neighbourhood institution Warangal families return to for boxed sweets and a samosa-and-chai stop.
Tip: Good for a take-home box of mithai after a temple visit. Snacks like samosa and kachori are made through the day — freshest mid-morning and early evening. Cash and UPI both work.
Signature: Veg dum biryani and South Indian tiffins
Hanamkonda's go-to pure-veg Udupi address — a budget favourite among locals at Chowrastha, inside the Supreme Lodge complex. The kitchen runs from tiffin staples (idli, dosa) to veg biryani, rotis and curries, and is liked for food that is well-flavoured without the heavy Telangana heat.
Tip: Veg pulav and veg dum biryani are the standouts; the AC dining hall is comfortable for a midday break. Parking is tight, so arrive on foot if you can. A safe pure-veg option near the Thousand Pillar Temple.
