A 700-year-old Durga temple near Chaubatia, 7km from Ranikhet, walled and roofed with thousands of brass bells donated by devotees whose prayers were answered. The clanging carries across the valley on a still afternoon. The bells are tied to every available beam and railing; some date back over a century. The current shrine structure is from 1935. Best: Year-round. Mar-Jun and Sep-Nov pleasant. Navratri (twice a year) sees crowds; off-festival mornings are quietest.. Reach: 7km from Ranikhet bus stand on the Chaubatia road. Local bus or taxi; the temple has a small parking area. Open roughly 6am-7pm.. Tip: Free entry. Buy a small bell from the shops outside (Rs 50-300) to hang yourself if your prayer is answered. Combine with Chaubatia gardens (1km away) and the orchard tasting room. Modest dress; remove leather goods at the gate..
