Himachal Pradesh · Kangra Valley · 1,472m🚗 hatchback OK — good valley roads
👨👩👧 Family: very low — gentle terrain, family-friendly town
India's tea capital that nobody talks about — Kangra tea gardens with Dhauladhar snow peaks behind them, minus the Darjeeling crowds.
Palampur is the tea capital of North India, growing Kangra tea since 1849. The Dhauladhar range provides a stunning snow-capped backdrop to emerald tea gardens. Neugal Cafe with its river gorge view is locally famous. The town has numerous Tibetan settlements and monasteries. Andretta village is an arts colony. Palampur gets a tiny fraction of Dharamsala's tourists despite being just 35km away and arguably more scenic for a relaxed stay.
