Cultural Context
Kasauli is a small cantonment town at 1,927m established by the British in 1842 as a hill station and military base. It retains its colonial character with the Christ Church (1853), Monkey Point (the highest point, controlled by the Indian Air Force), and the Pasteur Institute which produces anti-rabies vaccines. The town is a popular weekend escape from Delhi and Chandigarh.
What to Wear
Casual clothing. Warm layers for evenings. Smart casual at heritage properties. Monkey Point requires modest dress as it has a small Hanuman temple at the top — photography is restricted in the Air Force area.
Food Safety
Good food options for a small town. Several restaurants on Mall Road serve safe North Indian and continental food. Rudra's and Hangout are popular. Bottled water recommended.
Common Scams to Watch For

- •Hotels near bus stand claiming to be on Mall Road when they are far from it
- •Shops on Lower Mall selling cheap woolens as premium Himachali products
Cards & Cash
Most hotels and restaurants on Mall Road accept cards. ATMs available in the main market area. UPI widely accepted. Smaller shops may prefer cash.
