Kodia (Kaudia) Forest Trek.
Kanatal markets itself on resort packages and Tehri Lake day-trips; the Kodia trail starts behind the main road with no formal trailhead signage.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
A dense pine and oak forest stretching toward Chamba from Kanatal — known locally as Kaudia or Kodia jungle. The marked 7-8km trail toward Chamba ridge crosses streams and a couple of meadows, with leopard pugmarks regularly seen on the soft mud after rain (you won't see the leopard). Birding here is quietly one of the best in Tehri Garhwal: cheer pheasants, koklass, and yellow-billed blue magpies. Best: Mar-Jun and Sep-Nov. Avoid heavy monsoon (Jul-Aug) for leeches and trail erosion. Winter (Dec-Feb) gets snow, beautiful but slippery.. Reach: Trailheads at the Kanatal-Chamba road junction or behind the Kanatal market. 7-8km trek to Chamba (3-4 hours one-way) or shorter loops back to Kanatal.. Tip: Hire a local guide (~Rs 800-1200) for the full Chamba trek — it's not signposted. Solo walkers should stick to the shorter loops. Trekking shoes, leech socks in monsoon, layered clothes for changing weather. No food or water on the trail — pack everything..
