Home of the Dalai Lama and the most cosmopolitan small town in the Himalayas.
Seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile since 1960. McLeod Ganj is unlike anywhere else in India — Tibetan monks, Israeli backpackers, Korean meditators, French yogis, and Punjabi weekenders all in 2 sq km.
