WHERE TO EAT · 3 VERIFIED PICKS
Signature: Dum biryani and chicken dishes
Koraput town is the main base for visiting Deomali, around 60km away via Semiliguda. Ambica Restaurant is the highest-rated eatery in Koraput town on Tripadvisor — 4.3/5 — with reviewers praising its dum biryani, chicken dishes and aloo paratha. It is a dependable full-meal option for travellers starting or finishing a Deomali day-trip from the town.
Tip: Honest note: this is a Koraput-town restaurant, not a Deomali eatery — it is the base-city choice for those staying in Koraput rather than at the peak camp. Eat a proper meal here and carry provisions for the mountain. Koraput is also a stop for tribal-cuisine staples like mandia if you want to seek them out locally.
Signature: Chicken biryani and butter chicken
Semiliguda is the small town travellers pass through on the road to Deomali peak, and CNC is its best-known restaurant — ranked #7 of 34 Semiliguda eateries on Restaurant Guru with 1,600+ votes. Spread over two floors (snacks and breakfast below, full meals above), it serves a wide South and North Indian menu and is the most reliable proper restaurant on the Deomali approach.
Tip: This is the practical full-meal stop before or after the Deomali climb, since the peak itself has only camp catering. Open 7.30am-10pm, but closed on the last Monday of the month — check before relying on it. Food availability thins late in the evening; come at standard meal hours.
Signature: Local Koraput cuisine — millet-based dishes and home-style Odia meals
Deomali, Odisha's highest peak at 1672m, is a remote spot in Koraput district with no town and no commercial eateries on the mountain. The Deomali Nature Camp — a government eco-tourism camp near the peak — runs a restaurant serving local cuisine, and its cottage and dormitory packages include all three meals. For travellers staying at the peak, this is effectively the only dining option.
Tip: Meals are camp catering, complimentary with the stay and limited to the number on your ticket — book the correct headcount. The kitchen leans on Koraput's tribal staples like mandia (finger millet), worth trying where it is the everyday grain. There are no shops near the peak; carry water and snacks for treks.
