Nilgiri Biosphere tiger reserve — elephants, leopards, and India's most scenic safari road
Why Special
Bandipur is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve — contiguous with Mudumalai (Tamil Nadu), Wayanad (Kerala), and Nagarhole (Karnataka), forming one of the largest protected habitats in Asia. The NH766 Mysore-Ooty highway cuts through the park — one of India's most scenic drives (and most nerve-wracking at night when elephants cross). The park has 70+ tigers, 1,500+ elephants, and excellent leopard sighting probability. Safari vehicles are government-run.

The stay decisions worth flagging in Bandipur National Park.
No Taj, Oberoi, Four Seasons, or IHCL Seleqtion property operates within or directly adjacent to Bandipur National Park as of April 2026. The ecosystem is boutique lodges, government eco-lodges, and mid-range resorts. April sits at the tail end of peak dry season—sighting conditions are good as animals cluster around water, but temperatures in the buffer zone regularly hit 35°C by noon. The Mysore-Ooty highway (NH-181) bisects the park; night driving restrictions (9pm-6am) apply and will affect your arrival/departure logistics if you're coming from Mysore or Ooty.
Bandipur Safari Lodge runs ₹8-10k/night all-inclusive (two jeep safaris, naturalist, forest entry, meals). Dhole's Den runs ₹12-18k/night. The ₹4-8k/night gap at Dhole's Den buys you five private units, panoramic Nilgiri grassland views from your room, and a PUG Outstanding Practice sustainability certification—but it does not buy you a better safari. The forest access and sighting odds are identical once you're in the park. If the safari is the entire point of your trip, stay at Jungle Lodges and spend the difference on an extra night.
Bandipur Safari Lodge (Jungle Lodges & Resorts)
Jungle Lodges & Resorts is the Karnataka government's own wildlife hospitality arm, which means their guides hold forest department credentials and their jeeps have priority access during peak April morning slots when independent operators are queued out. Two safaris per day are baked into the package price—no negotiating with external operators, no surprise add-ons. MakeMyTrip rates hospitality at 4.8/5 across 290 ratings, and 2024-2025 reviews record tiger and elephant sightings specifically i
MC Resort Bandipur
At ₹12,980/night on MakeMyTrip, MC Resort lands in the same price band as Jungle Lodges but adds modern amenities, cycling, trekking within resort grounds, bonfires, and consistently praised locally-sourced in-house meals. Tour My India flags it as the top family-and-groups pick in Bandipur. If you're travelling with children or a group that needs more activity variety between safaris—rather than sitting in a non-AC rustic cottage—this is where the per-night rupee works harder. Dhole's Den
Five units only, which means the property never feels crowded. The PUG Outstanding Practice Certification is the highest sustainability accolade in Indian wildlife tourism—not a self-declared badge. TOFTigers Wildlife Lodge membership adds independent verification of conservation practices. Owner-led garden tours and sunset coffee sessions are the kind of thing that disappears when a property scales up; at five units, it stays. 2025 Tripadvisor reviews call it the best stay on their entire trip.
